3 Years Later and Taylor Swift’s Album “Reputation” Still Remains Supreme

Let’s go back in time for a second.

Picture this: it’s 2016, and you’re on Twitter and there’s a hashtag trending called #taylorswiftisoverparty. Now, that hashtag not only has over a million shares, it’s trending number one on the social media platform. How did we get here? It all goes back to some people.

You’ve heard the infamous story, Kanye got on a call with Taylor, Kim recorded it and the rest is history. What started as a harmless call between two musicians going over a verse in a song turned into the most talked about and widespread news for that entire year.

Unfortunately, it made Taylor out to be the bad guy, going into hiding for a whole year. But like the great that she is she didn’t sit there and do nothing. When something that bad happens to someone there are two options they have. You can either wallow in self-pity and make it your fault, or you can take that and come back stronger and better than ever.

Well, Taylor did just that, and it’s safe to say she didn’t hold back. “Reputation,” her sixth album and quite frankly most controversial and genre breaking record to this day saw her in a new light. By taking what she went through and putting it into her lyrics and sharing it with us we got to see her side of the story, the right side of the story as it had been realized later on.

She went to a dark side, but what’s so beautiful about that album was the fact that while she was going through all of that she was falling in love with someone. And those love songs on the album, songs like, “Call It What You Want,” “New Years Day,” and “Delicate,” help bring a little bit of light an air to a rather dark and stormy record. And it paid off.

The album is able to take us through her story and what she went through while also providing us with the good that happened during so much bad at that time. There truly is no other artist doing it like her, and even three years later it remains supreme.

To be honest, when it first came out I wasn’t the biggest fan, but it took a few years for it to grow on me. Listening back to those songs and being able to relate to them, good and bad, it’s like listening to a whole new album. I think it takes going through something for you to really appreciate what she made. I get it now.

“Reputation” on its release went to number one in seventeen different countries. Selling 1.23 million copies in its first week in the US. It was nominated for a Grammy and spawned the smash hit, “Look What You Made Me Do.”
