I wish I could say it was a shock to me when, one day, I looked up at my reflection and caught a glimpse of what was surely the negative effects of spending the last half of 2021 neglecting my body.

It wasn’t.

Pandemic body? Is that what they were calling it? Well, whatever it was, that’s what my reflection was screaming at me. And it was loud. Imagine like in the first Harry Potter movie when Harry is skirting around the restricted section over Christmas and he opens that book that literally yells at him.

Who is that girl I see staring straight back at me? Why is my reflection someone I don’t know?

Mulan “Reflection”

The late night feedings after getting out of work on Sundays. The wine nights while binging Community on Netflix. The thoughts about no one even seeing me due to the Pandemic. It all accumulated to a significant weight gain. Eesh. I was ashamed.

The Pandemic might not be going away anytime soon, but, my confidence needed a resurgence for my mental health.

First thing first, I knew I had to get back into intermittent fasting. More than anything I’ve tried in the past, this kind of fasting awarded me the best results. Better sleep and better discipline were icings on the cake. Bone broth was up next.

Resetting a severely imbalanced gut was necessary to purge all of my unhealthy wrongdoings. Having just put away six Nona Lim Turmeric Chicken Bone Broth heat-and-sip cups(one for lunch, one for dinner), I’ve lost eight pounds!

To also help keep me in tip-top form, I keep up a vitamin regimen of Biotin, Evening Primrose Oil, and Green Tea supplements.

Lesson learned: indulging every now and then is fine; even necessary. Indulging too much for too long harmed me and my well-being almost to the point where I couldn’t happily look in the mirror anymore.

Mirrors reflect. And not only did mine show surface-level negligence, it showed an inner turmoil I was very much ready to conquer day-by-day. I might not have the metabolism of my 17-year old self, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have the confidence I once had.

Don’t call it a “resolution”, or a “new year, new me”. Call it a lifestyle renaissance. A transition; a revival.

  1. Getting back me to ME is not only necessary but REQUIRED. I’ve known for quite sometime that Gut health is key and for me a solid and good ProBiotic is one supplement that your gut will thank you for later. Thanks for the transparency

    Great piece!!
