We at TREMG love spotlighting rising and underappreciated talent to give underground creators a platform and the recognition they deserve. So many artists spent March offering fans new treats, releasing some of the best work of their career, and opening up in their lyrics like never before. Throughout March, we got to talk to incredible artists like Maryze, Polartropica, Amy Jay, Niklaus Romero, Geneviève Racette, and burwell about their new projects, but there’s a whole world of talent making their own waves. Here are some of our favorite new releases from this month!
Aubrey Haddard – “Just A Wall”
Full of intrigue and fluttering vocals, Aubrey Haddard becomes her own muse on the introspective “Just A Wall,” a track about stepping back and reconfiguring your priorities when you need to. The song is as poignant an example as ever that music is Aubrey’s rightful priority, showcasing her strong perspective and unique vision as an artist! Perhaps just as impressive as the song itself is the fact that she throws spaghetti in a white shirt in the music video and the shirt escapes unscathed by sauce or bits of meatballs. ‘Just A Wall’ is about searching for purpose. I was finding comfort in ancient stories, and started writing from a perspective outside of my own. In this case, the Greek myth of Orpheus, and particularly the Jean Cocteau film adaptation resonated with me, and chasing my muse. ‘Bang a fist against the mirror,’ this thing you’ve always believed in as your special calling, a reflection of you, and upon contact, you find it really is just a wall, just someone searching for purpose, and you start to feel that self-acceptance that you always will be.

BENEE – “Never Ending”
Over a trap-tinged instrumental that’s as dreamy as it is grungy, BENEE describes heartbreak in a way that’s unlike anything you’ve heard from her before. It’s the electrifying latest single from her brand new EP, Lychee, which dropped earlier this month with Republic Records. “Never Ending” is the perfect display of the project’s detailed lyrics, attentive production that helps tell the story, and BENEE’s seemingly limitless talent, which she continues to push in new directions. This music was inspired by the thoughts that are always jangling around my brain; I find it really hard to switch off! I’ve spent a lot of time by myself, thinking about my friends, my relationships, and my place in this crazy mixed-up world we are living in… I love that this EP has the emotional breadth to channel much of the anxiety that I was feeling at home in songs like ‘Doesn’t Matter’ and ‘Hurt You Gus’ but then also switching to the new energy I found when writing ‘Beach Boy’ as well as ‘Never Ending,’ which is my current favorite!

BoyWithUke – “IDGAF” feat. blackbear
Between releasing his debut album, Serotonin Dreams, with Republic Records later this year and opening for AJR this spring, 2022 is set to be BoyWithUke’s biggest year yet. ‘IDGAF’ was so exciting to make for me. Hearing all the components of the song merge together to make the tune was so much fun, and on top of that, I was able to work with such a talented guy like blackbear. I’m just so excited to show people what I can do.

Bryce Vine – “American Dream”
After solidifying his status as a modern R&B legend, Bryce Vine picks up a guitar for the pop-rock anthem “American Dream,” which describes the ups and downs of 21st-century society. It’s the perfect companion piece to his recent single “Empty Bottles,” a collaboration with MOD SUN that marked his return to the pop-punk and alt-rock sounds he loved growing up. America has never been a stranger place. People are consistently divided, so rather than further that divide, I wanted to take the angst and unease that many of us are feeling, put a tongue-in-cheek spin on it, and make a song you can bang your head to. I think it’s best summed up with the lyric ‘The American Dream ain’t what it used to be, it’s kind of a nightmare.’

Caitlynne Curtis – “I Will Survive”
Caitlynne Curtis offers an adorable pop banger with “I Will Survive,” a sweet ode to her son that has the most fun spring vibes. She had her son at just 19, an age where most people are trying to decide which path they want to pursue in life, and it’s clear that her path was meant to be the perfect balance of motherhood and musical stardom. Her son even sings at the end of the song! Speaking of balance, her music is a stunning balance of pop and country energy, reminiscent of artists like Marren Morris. Caroline Romano – “Dizzy”
Caroline Romano is only 20, but has such a firm grasp of her vision as an artist and songwriter. She recently dropped her debut album, Oddities and Prodigies, and “Dizzy” is a sleek standout. It’s an exploration of the human experience in such a fresh light, tinged with guitars and filtered vocals that show off how overwhelming it can be to be a young artist in a chaotic world. I wanted the video to feel like a melted world of art. I truly can only draw the human figure without a face, so the video sort of likens that line to modern-day interactions — there are all these people around but we don’t really know them.

Ceara Cavalieri – “Radio Silence”
With an earworm hook and just the right amount of breakup angst perfect for fans of Avril Lavigne and Maggie Lindemann, Ceara Cavalieri calls out someone who ghosted her on “Radio Silence.” With one listen, it’ll be apparent that she deserves to be a poster girl of the recent pop-punk revival! “Radio Silence” is simply addicting, juxtaposing the mature realizations that she deserves better with denial-laced pleas to reconnect. It’s a modern anthem for anyone dealing with heartbreak or frustration thanks to someone uncommunicative in their life. I wrote this song about a guy that I had been dating for about 8 months who randomly ghosted me without saying anything. It is such a weird feeling when you are used to talking to someone everyday and then out of nowhere it’s just complete ‘radio silence’ on their end. I know that most people have experienced something like this and it can really make you feel down on yourself especially without getting that closure. If you’re going through something like this or have experienced something similar then this is definitely a song that you can scream in your car.

Julia Bhatt – “Cotton Candy”
Julia Bhatt brings all the indie pop vibes you never knew you needed with the airy “Cotton Candy,” describing an energetic rush that’s as sweet as the titular dessert. Over the course of the pandemic, Bhatt had to cancel her first tour and started exploring Ableton software instead of only writing on her guitar. At just 26, Karlae has already made a name for herself on the rap scene, being the first female artist to sign to Young Thug’s Young Stoner Life record label, as well as scoring high-profile collabs with artists like Gunna, Coi Leray, and City Girls. So she’s more than earned the right to brag on the bouncy ‘Did That,’ all while the song makes it clear that the best is yet to come. You may already know her from her role on Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans or her independent releases, but you’ve never heard Kira Kosarin like this. “mood ring” is her debut single with Republic Records, and even though it has the same Kira flair that fans have fallen in love with, there’s a newfound elegance that will capture them even more. I’m excited to have something out there that when people come and look, is actually a reflection of me, for maybe the first time in my life. With ‘mood ring,’ I’m telling a story of falling in love through color. It’s got a rhythmic pocket that just feels really good to listen to, while still maintaining the emotional connection and acoustic side of my sensibility.

Lyn Lapid – “The Outsider”
The perfect encapsulation of FOMO, growing pains, and a fear of being replaced, Lyn Lapid’s “The Outsider” is a soft pop anthem for those who feel unwanted. I wrote ‘The Outsider’ about that stage in your life when you start to grow apart from people who were part of your every day. For a lot of people, it can be about becoming distant in relationships that you thought would last forever. For me, those relationships in my life were with my old high school friends. Since we all kind of went in different directions after high school, it was sort of inevitable to become distant with them. Watching them grow apart from you and seeing them make new memories with other people is a truly bittersweet feeling. They were probably off making inside jokes with new people, and that felt very isolating, which is why I called it ‘The Outsider.’”

As a duo and a rule, Kane and I share everything. ‘Really Want To See You Again’ was written two days after meeting the girl I’m very much in love with. The three of us are very happy together.

His latest single “Mind Games,” a collaboration with Marwang, manages to address tough topics like manipulation in an angsty, yet still melodic, way. The track is about being in a super toxic relationship, not being able to understand somebody so you constantly feel like you’re playing mind games. Through this song, I want to encourage people to listen to their gut and follow their own intuition about people so they don’t end up feeling trapped in such a toxic situation.

If you already knew Yot Club, then no, you didn’t. “u don’t kno me” beckons a new era for Ryan Kaiser, serving as the lead single of his upcoming debut album as Yot Club. It’s the perfect pandemic-age anthem, juxtaposing a nostalgic 80s groove with messages about the repetitive day-to-day life we’ve all sunken into. I’ve had people describe the sound of my music as nostalgic, but I thought ‘u dont kno me’ sounded particularly nostalgic and I wanted a music video to portray that. The song is about being stuck in an endless routine and days becoming monotonous, and the director, Troy Lustick, did a really great job of expressing that. The video was super fun to shoot and I got to ride a lot of free rides in the process.
