As Black Americans are we just being foolish at this point in American history?
The deputy, whose name and race haven’t been released, bangs on Fortson’s door, pauses, then knocks again, yelling that he’s from the sheriff’s office. Fortson eventually answers the door while holding what appears to be a gun by his side pointed at the ground. Within a few seconds, the deputy shoots Fortson six times, only then yelling for him to drop his weapon.
Why in #BLM cases the victim’s identity is not protected but the cops are? It makes no sense to protect those who actively walk around with firearms because they opt to be citizens on patrols. Private citizens should be protected. The cops are on patrol in communities, we should know who they are by first and last name.
Sheriff Eric Aden said the deputy acted in self-defense, and he rejected assertions that the deputy was at the wrong apartment.
So before anyone even learns details, the Sheriff adds in their opinion to the press because shootings need to be investigated by outside forces. You don’t let the same unit investigate themselves. Watch Serpico.
So now just by reading, we don’t know the cop but he has defenders, more cops. The media is a piece of work truly. They make us study the media before getting degrees in criminal justice.
Let’s keep reading….
In another incident six months ago, an #OkaloosaCounty deputy reacted to the sound of a falling acorn hitting his patrol vehicle by firing multiple rounds at the vehicle, where a handcuffed Black man sat inside.
So more documented proof of the same unit’s behavior which remains documented but never addressed. In policing, the ignorance of the public is a major play in going after criminals. As seen in Trump’s cases.
It’s past time to call for a real comprehensive look at guns and societal safety in the United States. There is no reason mass shootings and deadly shootings by officers remains our norm when it doesn’t happen in other nations.
