Halle Berry is set to star in the next Roland Emmerich project for Lionsgate. The project titled Moonfall was penned by Emmerich and 2012 co-writer Harald Kosler and Spenser Cohen. Moonfall centers on a mysterious force knocking the moon from orbit, causing it to be on a collision course towards earth.
Along with Berry, Moonfall will also star Josh Gad, who plays an eccentric genius that discovers that the moon has fallen from orbit. Berry will play an astronaut-turned-NASA administrator whose previous mission holds a clue to the incident occurring in space.
Emmerich will produce the project under his Centropolis banner, in which Centropolis will oversee all aspects of production.
Lionsgate hopes to have a North American release sometime in 2021.
