Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel confirmed that John Geddert, a former gymnastics coach with ties to Larry Nassar, was found dead by suicide on Thursday. Geddert was facing over 20 charges including sexual assault and human trafficking related to the abuse of young gymnasts, according to the attorney general.
Officials charged Geddert Thursday with 24 counts including human trafficking, sexual assault, racketeering and lying to police.
Geddert, 63, has long been viewed within the gymnastics community as one of Nassar’s chief enablers. As far back as the late 1980s, at Great Lakes Gymnastics Club in Lansing, before he was even a licensed physician, Nassar began sexually assaulting minor gymnasts on his training table, according to the accounts of multiple women.
