BROODS have perfected the end-of-summer banger with their bouncy new track “Piece of My Mind,” which explores the dark side of escapism over a misleadingly upbeat instrumental. Siblings Caleb and Georgia Nott know how to tackle such sensitive, unsettling topics with a sense of grace and danceable elegance, and “Piece of My Mind” is the perfect example.

“The song describes the many paradoxes we encounter when we try to escape our problems,” Georgia shares. “The more we try to run away from our problems and ourselves, the more we are confronted with the aspects of each that we don’t like. ‘Piece of My Mind’ is the moment I start reasoning with myself at the crossroads – to figure out where I am, and what’s really at the heart of what I’m denying and trying to escape.”

Warning: the video below has flashing lights throughout – viewer discretion is advised for those with photosensitivity!

After touring with Taylor Swift, the only way has been up for artists like Charli XCX and Ed Sheeran, but BROODS are flying high and taking an intergalactic detour. “Piece of My Mind” is the first taste of the duo’s upcoming Space Island record, which heavily emphasizes world-building and creativity as a record they (presumably) won’t be able to tour anytime soon. They recruited producer Stint, best known for his work with boundary-pushing popstars like Carly Rae Jepsen and Kesha, to build a sonic landscape that feels like a “jet pack trip” among the stars.

“We wanted to do something really special, because we don’t know when people are going to be able to go to live shows next,” Georgia explains. “We wanted to create this world that people could come and visit from wherever they are.”

You can find “Piece of My Mind” on your favorite streaming services now, and keep up with BROODS on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and their official website!
