Patiently Waiting For These Netflix Shows To Return? So Are We!

With so many shows at our binging disposal, it can be tough to find ones that latch on to our souls. Once found though, it’s even tougher to finish them without knowing when, or even if, they’ll return. So we twiddle our thumbs as time passes, hoping to hear news about a new season on the horizon.

Thankfully, some Netflix originals I like to claim as some of my favorites have gotten the green light for a new season.

Dead to Me

Grief brought them together. Murder kept them together.

This suspense-filled dark comedy centers around two unlikely friends and many bottles of wine. The many twists and turns Jen and Judy encounter will keep you hooked on the two seasons currently streaming.

Production on the third and final season is still a go, but with the pandemic halting filming in 2020, and then a temporary pause in the spring of 2021 due to Christina Applegate’s MS diagnosis, it’s likely we won’t get season three until late summer at best. And that’s being optimistic. Nevertheless, Dead to Me is one of Netflix’s most anticipated outputs, and definitely worth the wait!

Firefly Lane

This show wasn’t even on my radar until my best friend suggested it to me.

Experience growing up in the 70’s, and early adulthood in the 80’s, with tough-as-nails (on the outside) Tully and kind-hearted Kate. They’re thick as thieves and demonstrate what it means to always have a best friend no matter what life throws at you. And Firefly Land definitely has some doozies! This Netflix original is expected to return with its second season summer of fall of this year.

**Also note the titles of each episode…

Grace & Frankie

Friendship comes unexpectedly and later in life for this show’s title characters. Throw in a chaotic family dynamic and you’ve got six (and a half) seasons of pure belly-aching laughing.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a set time frame for when the remaining episodes of season seven are slated to return. Thankfully, however, we’ve got plenty of episodes to binge while we wait. And I don’t know about you, but I’d wait a pretty long time for the comedic talents of Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda.

Never Have I Ever

If pure, lighthearted fun is the kind of thing you’re after, you won’t be disappointed with this Mindy Kaling-helmed sitcom. Relive high school awkwardness with Devi Vishwakumar and her friends for two seasons while trying to figure out if you’re Team Paxton, or Team Ben.

While confirmed that Devi’s story will continue, season three doesn’t seem to be in the near future. And it doesn’t help that there was over a year gap between season one and season two.

But, the good news is that Netflix has recently confirmed that Never Have I Ever is currently in production for season three! Hooray for more John McEnroe voice overs!

Outer Banks

I stumbled upon this show when I needed something to binge watch during quarantine lockdown. And while I haven’t been a teenager in over a decade, I’m still obsessed with the suspenseful treasure hunt John B and his friends have been a part of for the past two seasons. Filming for season three starts next month with no official date yet.

Sex/Life

Not for the faint of heart, this 8-episode Netflix original is a rollercoaster ride from start to finish! What’s even more awesome about this show is that it’s helmed by only women. Female author (Sex/Life is based on the memoir titled “44 Chapters About 4 Men” by B.B. Easton), female writer, and female directors.

Nobody wants to be embroiled in a love triangle. They’re just downright messy. But watching this complicated, yet hot, triangle with two downright sexy men will definitely give you all the right kind of heart palpitations. Netflix confirmed that the show is coming back for a second season, although no date has been announced for when filming will resume.

Sweet Magnolias

Enter heart break, romance, unrequited love, and margaritas all wrapped up in southern charm! This amazing 10-episode show quietly slid under the radar on Netflix. But those of us who’ve enjoyed it can’t, and won’t, stop singing its praises. Follow Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue navigate life and motherhood.

A major cliffhanger in the last two minutes of the finale episode of season one begged for Netflix to give us a second season. And they delivered!

The only show on this list to have a known premiere date, we’ll all be back in the fictional town of Serenity on February 4. So grab your friends and a pitcher of margaritas, because it’s about to be a crazy, emotional, and heartwarming ride!
