Wikipedia lists them as an anti-LGBTQIA+ group aka a hate group who helps religious Americans fight back legally against laws affecting the transgender community, most recently via school boards and school districts.
So, this ex-teacher Pamela Ricard was asked to conceal the gender pronouns of her students to their parents which she claimed went against her strong Christian views and used the ADF’s political and financial powers to do it. They threatened the Geary County school board with a $95,000 lawsuit which was then dropped once settled. “No school district should ever force teachers to willfully deceive parents or engage in any speech that violates their deeply held religious beliefs,” ADF Senior Counsel Tyson Langhofer said in a statement. In 2021, Ricard was suspended from her job as an educator when she referred to a transgendered student by student’s legal pronouns.
Religion is on the forefront of many upcoming legal battles across state lines with Abortion rights up in the air and the fight for transgendered equity continues. Teachers are meant to protect their students at all costs but in today’s shifting culture who you are and what you believe in has more financial consequences than seen in previous years. Transgendered communities are deemed a protected group just as Black Americans, and disabled Americans which means special protections are given legally. Not only are pronouns an issue at the educational level but also what is being taught as part of history. Within the last 5 years we have seen the increase in conservative sectors of the United States double down on the ways of the past with erasures to historic truths and the criminalization of progressive ideologies.
The future looks a bit grim.
