Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson announced the official release of his eighth book, Hip Hop Is History. The book will be available for purchase on June 11, 2024.
A follow up to Music Is History, Thompson will use a listing of songs to chronicle the history of Hip Hop and Rap. The book will publish through AWAU books, an imprint directed by Thompson.
Before his foray into publishing, Thompson was best known as co-founder of and drummer for The Roots. He also launched careers as a DJ and a leader of the house band, alongside his crew mates, for the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Questlove’s latest endeavors into podcasts and directing continue his work as a music historian dedicated to conversations centering culture and craft.
Readers should expect Hip Hop Is History to continue this work. According to an Instagram post, Thompson will consider Hip Hop from the viewpoint of several distinct eras, leading a discussion of his home genre according to its most recognizable cultural influences.
