On April 9 2026, Ismael Ramsey Khalid, 25 years old and otherwise known by his online alias of Johnny Somali, has finally been sentenced for his crimes in South Korea in 2024. His charges include four counts of Obstruction of business, two counts of violation of Minor Crimes Act, and two counts of violation of Special Act of Sexual Violence Crimes. It is generous to even call Khalid a youtuber or streamer as he has been banned from Twitch, Kick, Rumble, Parti, and Youtube multiple times on multiple different accounts.
Khalid had posted videos as a self proclaimed internet ‘troll’ blasting loud music and poured food on tables in businesses such as convenience stores as well as amusement parks. Amidst his crimes, all filmed and posted online for your viewing displeasure, include dancing and kissing statues honoring the South Korean women taken into sexual slavery by Japan as ‘Comfort Women’ in World War II. He was also found guilty of distributing sexual deepfakes of himself and a female South Korean streamer, as well as using text to speech bots and services to engage in explicit discussions with minors.
In 2024 Khalid apologized with claims that he didn’t know the significance of the statues, however the Korean public and general internet cast doubt as he has said similar things of his crimes in Japan and Israel when they held the man accountable in a similar manner.
His sentencing includes six months in prison plus twenty days of detention with labor, and a five-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and the disabled. He will be detained in the country until his second trial to be held on May 16 at the time of writing.
