She’s owned the big screen. She’s owned the runway. And now, Cara Delevingne is about to own your playlist. Her Warner Records debut is nothing short of magnetic and mesmerizing, providing two immersive forms of escapism and catharsis through “I Forgot” and “Out of my Head.” The former slithers through varying states of consciousness and awareness, opening with Cara’s voice without backing before a harsh electronic soundscape pounds into the foreground and into your head. It eventually evens out into a more ethereal mood that includes a gentle piano complementing Cara’s soft, confessional lyrics. “I Forgot” feels less like a song than it does a sonic journey that transports you to a place just as dizzying and delightfully disorienting as the mindset that the lyrics describe.

Meanwhile, “Out of my Head” returns back to the present world that Cara forgot was real with a mission to be more present. It addresses the overstimulation that so many of us feel in the digital age and how we slip into our own little worlds far too often to our detriment. It’s a fall from cloud nine that simultaneously feels like a rise to a higher self and a choice to accept the truth about how we get in our own way. Around halfway through the song, the production distorts and background voices laugh as if they’re sharing a conversation at a social event where Cara spaced out. “Get out of your head” becomes a battle cry against self-doubt and the cages we subconsciously build around ourselves.

Music was always that dream I had, but never believed I would get the opportunity to create. Writing ‘I Forgot’ felt like a rebirth for me and ‘Out of my Head’ was like going to therapy. Everything has felt like it’s led up to this point and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it.
