For those who have more than a passing relationship with their gym and squats, short shorts are having a moment. Around five inches is a good place to aim, which will get you sufficient coverage without sacrificing too much of your modesty. Any shorter and your man-parts may be compromised. Seriously high hemlines are trending on the runway – Prada basically showed boxer briefs as outerwear – but opt for the Saint Laurent, Dries van Noten or Acne Studios mid-thigh length. Sure, they’re still high, but not so high you’ll be arrested for public indecency.

If you’re worried about dabbling in skimpy shorts, you could veer in the opposite direction and try a pair of long-ish jorts or chino shorts instead. Granted, it’s an acquired taste that may take a bit more styling, but it can look good when it’s done right. The key is to keep the fit nice and loose and team the shorts up with similarly baggy, relaxed-fitting pieces. Tread carefully around anything too 2000s-themed, though, unless looking like the 6th member of The Backstreet Boys is your intention.
