Whether it’s an occasional irritation or ongoing inflammation, red, burning skin can be downright painful. Especially for us gals with conditions such as rosacea. As a general rule, the less is more rule usually helps when your skin is acting up. Treat it with kid gloves and protect it from further irritation. I have rounded up 6 products that I personally have tried and love. I usually turn to clean or organic products for this category-you don’t want to anger the beast with unwanted ingredients.

Disclaimer time: I am not a doctor nor am I a skin esthetician (I wouldn’t pick that career just because I could never spell it). Because people are different, they won’t always get the same results. And I am an affiliate for some of these retailers. This means if you click on the link or make a purchase, I may receive a small commission. At no extra cost to you.

Cleansers

Eminence has a dizzying array of skincare products including many for sensitive skin. It is a bit pricey but it works.

From the manufacturer: It “Gently remove impurities from your skin with our Calm Skin Chamomile Cleanser. Infused with chamomile, arnica and rosemary, this calming cream cleanser is perfect for sensitive skin that is prone to redness. It is cruelty-free and formulated without parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, animal by-products, phthalates, GMOs and triclosan.“

Sometimes you don’t even want water on your skin. Your solution is a soap free, no rinse micellar water. There are a bunch of brands of micellar water on the market, many at a lower price. But my skin just seems to like Caudalie.

From the manufacturer: “A soap-free, no-rinse micellar water to remove makeup, cleanse, and tone.

To let you in on a little French secret, you can remove makeup, cleanse, and tone in a single step—without using water. No rinse needed, just a quick swipe, and makeup, impurities, and sebum cling to the formula. The number one cleanser in France, Caudalie’s Micellar Cleansing Water acts like a magnet to lift dirt, oil, excess sebum, and makeup from the face and eyes. The formula is powered by organic grape water, chamomile extract, and plant glycerin to soothe, moisturize, and soften skin.”

Use it with these reusable bamboo wipes . Per the manufacturer “ These 16 makeup remover pads are equivalent to 2000 disposable cottons.” Plus look at how much fun you will have with them. Maybe get a set for the kids too.

Moisturizers

Acure is a great affordable skin care line for all skin types.

From the manufacturer: “Take your face to cloud nine with this super fluffy lightweight cloud cream rich in argan oil and hyaluronic acid. Use as a soothing night time treatment cream and sleep on the clouds. Wake up refreshed and dreamy!” -Actually, waking up on the clouds would be rather terrifying in my opinion.

Biossance has an innovative line focused on squalane, which is like hyaluronic acid on steroids. Biossance harvests theirs from sustainable sugar cane instead of diving into the unethical practice of deriving it from shark livers. Probiotics are up and coming and being touted as excellent for calming reactive skin.

And the manufacturer says: “This refreshing moisturizer reduces the effects of daytime stressors by supporting skin’s natural moisture barrier with probiotics, leaving skin visibly brighter and more balanced. The formula also helps reduce the appearance of pore size and calms the look of redness with red seaweed and ginger extract.

Highlighted Ingredients:

– Probiotic (Lactococcus Ferment Lysate): Supports moisture barrier and skin’s natural renewal process.

– Ginger Extract: Visibly reduces redness and irritation.

– Red Seaweed: Calms the look of stressed skin.”

Special Treatments

Ren Clean Skincare has a whole line of products for sensitive skin. My favorite is this recovery balm which almost instantly soothes my skin. It is a bit greasy so it is best to use when at home or overnight.

Because the manufacturer can say it better:

“This rich night balm feeds your skin while you sleep. It is formulated with lipids from Olive, Almond Borage and Linseed oils that have been activated to be easily absorbed into the skin to intensely nourish and moisturize while you sleep when the skin’s own regenerative process takes place.

A Jojoba and sunflower oil complexsupports the skin’s natural lipid balance to strengthen the skin protective barrier while Beta-glucan soothes and alleviates signs of irritation from dryness.”

This liquid treatment is very soothing and can be used any time of day. Even if you don’t like mushrooms.

Here is the manufacturer info:

“What it is: A mushroom-infused, hydrating, watery lotion that reduces the look of redness and preps cleansed skin for serum and moisturizer.

Highlighted Ingredients – Reishi: Helps calm, comfort, and reduce visible redness.

– Fermented Chaga: Fermented & finely filtered to create an active with 28% more anti-irritant power (In an in-vitro study vs. unfermented Chaga)

– Coprinus: Helps to soothe stressed-looking complexions.”

Now you have six products that can help your sensitive, irritated skin. I hope you find one that works well for you. And because the power of suggestion is so great, my face is burning now.

Keeping the home fires burning,
