Devin Stone is a practicing lawyer in Washington DC who’s best known for his meme commentary. He posted his first Youtube video to his channel LegalEagle in February of 2017 and now boasts a whooping 1.13 million subscribers. Viewers love to see him react to lawyer memes, crazy court cases, and give other insights into the world of law.
But sometimes, things get serious.
On June 25, Stone released a video to Youtube explaining why he planned to sue the White House, the CIA, the Department of Justice, and many more. During Trump’s impeachment trial, former ambassador John Bolton refused to testify, but went on to write a book entitled “The Room Where It Happened” about the many horrors he witnessed while working under Trump. This book released a ton of new information on Trump, such as how he asked Chinese President Xi Jinping for help with his reelection, that Trump wanted CNN reporters to serve jail time, and plenty more. Despite all of this new information, Devin Stone couldn’t help but feel that something was still being hidden. He determined it was likely that the government censored Bolton in order to hide particularly incriminating evidence against Trump, so he filed a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act). As Stone explains, this is “a federal law that requires the full or partial disclosure of previously unreleased information controlled by the United States government, upon request.”
Unsurprisingly, the FOIA request has been stonewalled.
Devin Stone has teamed up with a number of National Security lawyers, including Executive Director Kel McClanahan, to ensure that his FOIA is received and that any information the government censored from Bolton’s book reaches the public eye.
Bolton stated that he refused to testify at the impeachment trial because he believes that our country cycles out bad presidents via elections. However, as Stone points out in his Youtube video, this can’t happen unless the public receives all of the information that it needs. If the government has censored Bolton, we need to know.
