The flick will be directed by American-Egyptian filmmaker, Sam Esmil, and he will adapt the novel for the screen. The project greenlight comes after a rights battle between Apple, Netflix, and MGM. Netflix wins again. Esmil is known for his groundbreaking script work on TBS’s Mr. Robot.
The novel will be published this fall by the HarperCollins publishing imprint Ecco. The book portion was a 7-figure deal and the outline for a budget was part of the negotiation, sources said. This becomes yet another in a spate of precedent-setting deal, including salaries and backends for the stars and filmmaker. (Reported By Deadline)
