Trump’s tweet poses question of delaying the presidential election. Don’t let this nonsense stand.

Donald Trump says he wants to delay the presidential election.

‘President’ Trump

Here’s what he said today on Twitter:

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrumpLevel 1:With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???2:46 PM · Jul 30, 2020·

As usual, Trump is pushing a false narrative here. He’s claiming that mail-in voting is more likely to be fraudulent than in-person voting.

Trump, of course, is WAY behind Joe Biden in all the polls I’ve seen. If there are any polls showing Trump in the lead, I haven’t seen them. And believe me, I watch the polls.

While the U.S. President has no authority to delay an election, Trump is trying to use the power of the Presidency to at least start a conversation about a delay. And, naturally, he’s doing it in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in which many people will want to vote by mail. He’s not mentioning his own egregious mismanagement of the pandemic, of course.

While claiming that the election would be “fraudulent,” he’s also lamenting the “fact” that such an election would be a big “embarrassment” to the United States.

No. Trump is the embarrassment.

What he really wants is to lower voter turnout. He wants to deprive Biden supporters of their votes, and increase Republican advantage.

Don’t let him pull this. Fire back on social media. Get involved in politics. Don’t leave it to other people, or imagine that it doesn’t affect you. Call or write your representatives in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. Tell them that you want the election to proceed normally, by mail, absentee ballot, or in person.

And whatever else you do, be sure that you register to vote. Then do it.
