Fans of Nintendo video games will soon get the chance to experience the worlds of their favorite games as the Super Nintendo World area of Universal Studios Japan in Osaka is set to open up to the public on February 4, 2021.
Beginning construction in 2017, Super Nintendo Land was originally set to open around 2020 Summer Olympics but was delayed due to COVID-19. This area of the park will be next to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the northern edge of the park.
From what has been shown so far, the area will have a heavy focus on the “Super Mario Bros.” franchise with a potential “Donkey Kong” area in the works. One of the first rides showcased was Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, based on the “Mario Kart” series of games. In the ride, visitors ride in a kart through Bowser’s castle.
Currently, there are talks of making a Super Nintendo Land in Universal Studios Orlando. However, until then, the one in Japan will be the one place to live out a Nintendo fan’s dream of being in the worlds they have loved since childhood.
