Things That You Should Know

Close up black and white of couple holding hands by Phil Chester Photography - Stocksy United

Before we go much further there are things that you should know.

I’m too scared and nervous to let my feelings show.

I may look self-assured, but, you know, that’s just a show,

so I had to tell you baby, these things that you should know.

This poker face I’m wearing hides all my yearnings,

but under the serenity my hungry heart is burning.

The wall I built to hide me melts in love’s great glow.

Oh, I just had to tell you, baby, these things that you should know.

Oh, I’ve played the game and won, but I lost it in the end,

so why would I be willing to roll the dice again?

I want to touch the jewels deep within your soul,

so I just had to tell you, baby, these things that you should know.

You said that you adored me. Ah, you have no idea

how deeply those words move me – they’re moving in me still.

We said we’d take it slowly and there’s wisdom there I know.

still, I just had to tell you baby, these things that you should know.

Oh, I’ve hurt the ones who loved me and that burden’s hard to bear.

But it was all of my own doing, so I have no complaints there.

I’m melancholy, deeply flawed, not always apropos.

That’s why I had to tell you, baby, these things that you should know.

To love and to be loved is my only need.

My wants, desires, and longings dwell in simplicity.

Ah, but should these things not suit you, you know you’re free to go.

But I just had to tell you, baby, these things that you should know.

Oh, I just had to tell you, baby, these things that you should know.
