Machine Gun Kelly became the first mainstream artist to collaborate with YouTuber and streamer Corpse Husband, who releases music as CORPSE, with “DAYWALKER!,” a chilling collab based on the challenges MGK has faced in personal growth and healing from mental illness.

After securing the biggest Spotify debut the weekend of its release on March 12th, MGK released a music video to accompany the track on Thursday, March 18th.

The video is divided into several sections, with each “chapter” having different visuals to tell the story of someone going through a hard time. The first chapter shows MGK getting into a fist-fight with skateboarder David Loy in a parking lot. They filmed the fight on March 12th, just days before the video’s release and hours before MGK claimed the video would be out the next day.

Since CORPSE infamously never shows his face, his friend and fellow YouTuber Valkyrae steps in to play him during Chapters 3 and 4. Valkyrae shared a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot in a fun vlog, showing how she got ready for the role and what it was like to film the video.

Rae also revealed on Twitter that MGK specifically requested her to play CORPSE:

The video collected 3.8 million views in its first day, making it one of MGK’s biggest YouTube debuts to date – he previously celebrated “4 million views” within a day of releasing his “Bloody Valentine” music video in May 2020.
