Of all the K-Pop groups that have debuted in the past few years, aespa are undoubtedly one of the most exciting. They debuted in late 2020 with “Black Mamba” and have since found massive success with their 2021 singles “Next Level” and “Savage.” Another thing that sets them apart is their storyline – they have virtual avatars called “ae” that they have to rescue from Black Mamba, who wants to separate them from the physical world.

The four-piece girl group recently traveled to New York for a thrilling U.S. promo tour, and if you didn’t keep up with their appearances, we’ve got you! Here’s a rundown of how aespa spent their time in the Big Apple.

Sightseeing with Roy Wood, Jr.

aespa got a warm welcome from Roy Wood, Jr. of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, who showed them around the city on a double-decker bus! They discussed their AI concept, their excitement about performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, and their Givenchy ambassadorship while seeing attractions like Times Square and the Apollo Theater. We loved the group’s cute interjections, like Ningning exclaiming “pizza!” when they saw a restaurant and Winter saying “I think he’s a liar” when Roy made jokes about NYC.

Performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The main reason aespa were in New York was to appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, becoming the first Korean girl group to perform. They sang their hit “Savage” and it was well worth the wait for their U.S. debut! We love that they got to ride on Olay’s “Her Future is STEM-sational” float as a nod to their tech-inspired concept.

Talking to Rolling Stone

aespa closed off their momentous trip with a stop at Rolling Stone to film their own episode of the magazine’s “First Time” series. They reflected on meeting each other for the first time as SM Entertainment trainees, hearing “Next Level” on the radio with a cab driver who changed the station, and their exciting work with Givenchy. It was the perfect way to end their time in New York, looking back at some of their career highlights and celebrating how far they’ve come as a group.

What was your favorite part of aespa’s New York trip? You can get to know Karina, Giselle, Ningning, and Winter on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter
