In Wyoming, incumbent Republican Rep. Liz Cheney faces Trump-backed Harriet Hageman and others in the race for the state’s only US House seat. Cheney is also the chair of the notorious January 6th Committee tasked with investigating the former disgraced, double impeached President Trump’s mob who attack Congressional members of Congress and the Veep, Michael Pence. The attack was a coup attempt to steal an election from President Biden and Veep Kamala Harris. It failed. Cheney is the daughter of former President and First Lady of the U.S., Dick and Lynne Cheney.
She has been hailed by Democratic congressional members as a heroine, for her work on the committee, the endless attacks from right-wing media pundits, and the calmness she exhibits when speaking to the American people. Many of whom believe the insurrection was an attack on Democracy and deserves an open investigation. She is a walking, living, voting example of bravery. Today, she might be out.
Liz Cheney serves as Wyoming’s lone member of Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives. She was first elected in 2016, on a platform of restoring America’s strength and power in the world, and pursuing conservative solutions to create jobs, cut taxes and regulation, and expand America’s energy, mining and agriculture industries. Cheney serves on the House Armed Services Committee.
Prior to her election to Congress, Liz served at the State Department as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Middle East. She also practiced law at White & Case and at the International Finance Corporation.
A specialist in national security and foreign policy, she was also a Fox News analyst, and the co-author, along with Vice President Cheney, of Exceptional: Why The World Needs a Powerful America. She is a member of the International Board of Advisors at the University of Wyoming.
Liz and her husband Phil Perry have five children and live in Wilson, Wyoming. (https://cheneyforwyoming.com/)
Cheney, like Hillary Clinton, is a white woman who took on Trump head-to-head. The difference here, Cheney and Trump represent the same types of voters. How sway? Electoral votes in congressional maps like the ones in Wyoming give us that math. The maps changed after the results of the 2020 census, they call it redistricting.
The GOP now represents less Americans in the history of the party. If they don’t steal elections, put forth disinformation about their political opponents, or dog bark for campaign bucks, the party would have died on January 6th, 2021. It didn’t. It’s unfortunate that a powerful leg of American society has turned into a personality cult, as explained in our special report, Cult Minded.
Hageman founded the Wyoming Conservation Alliance and has worked as an attorney and legal consultant. Former President Trump endorsed Hageman on Sep. 13, 2021. Hageman said she is running because “Wyoming is entitled to a representative in Congress who remembers who sent her there and remembers what their wishes are…Liz Cheney is doing neither, and I will do both.”
Ms. Hageman’s yearslong journey from Never-Trumpism to declaring him the best president of her lifetime is one of the most striking illustrations yet of the political elasticity demonstrated both by ambitious Republicans in the Trump era and by the former president himself, who has relentlessly asserted his dominance over leaders of his party.
