For the 15th Year running, bicyclists from across the country took to Philadelphia Pennsylvania to partake in the city’s annual “Philly Naked Bike Race”. As the name implies, these racers ride their bicycles bare-naked throughout the city’s Fairmont Park and end their route near Drexel University. Other landmarks visited by this bike race include the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, City Hall, and Rittenhouse Square. It is approximately 12 miles (19 kilometers) of pure nudity.

“Our goal is to promote cycling as a key form of transportation and a fuel-conscious consumption”, says coordinator Westly Noonan-Sessa. “We also hope to encourage body positively and just being yourself”. Sessa encourages other environmental-friendly transportation as well including skateboards, roller skates, and scooters. Sexual harassment or remarks of any kind, however, are prohibited.

The bike race is held every September usually in warmer temperatures. The weather this weekend is reported to be over 77 degrees Farenheit (25 degrees Celcius) so organizers are expecting a huge turnout. The race was moved to August in 2014 due to a cooler September and canceled in 2020 for obvious reasons.

“The energy that the Philly Naked Bike Ride feels like is very metal”, says one participant Aaron Rabon. “We’ve got people real close to each other, yelling at the top of their lungs, in a big crowd going through a lot of people, just kind of being silly, goofy, swinging our arms around, getting our genitals out. I mean, it’s wild and almost chaotic, in a way. Let’s show support for our city as bare as we dare”.
