Statement From CVO/BLM Activist Tahyira Savanna on the Death of Charlie Kirk

Today, I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Charlie Kirk. This act of violence, occurring at a university where ideas are meant to be shared safely, is a stark reminder of the fragility of civil discourse.

As someone who has dedicated their life to activism and advocacy, I understand the power of raising our voices for justice. But violence is never an answer. It silences dialogue, diminishes our shared humanity, and leaves pain in its wake. Charlie Kirk, like all of us, was a human being deserving of life and safety, regardless of political beliefs.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who followed his work. Let this tragedy remind us that activism, debate, and advocacy are strongest when rooted in respect, empathy, and non-violence.

We must commit to holding space for ideas, challenging one another thoughtfully, and protecting the safety of all voices in our communities.
