Statement from Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn on Hurricane Relief Efforts for Jamaica
In the wake of the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Melissa, our hearts are with the people of Jamaica as they face unimaginable loss and devastation.
As relief efforts begin, Assemblymember Bichotte Hermelyn is calling on our community to come together in support of families affected by this disaster. The Assemblymember’s office is launching an Emergency Relief Drive to collect urgently needed supplies that will be shipped directly to Jamaica.

The Drive Will Focus on Collecting The Following Items:
• Non-perishable food items (canned or packaged goods)
• Baby formula and baby food (no glass containers)
• Hygiene and health essentials (soap, toothpaste, feminine products, diapers, wipes, etc.)
• Household and emergency supplies (batteries, flashlights, cleaning products, reusable water bottles, etc.)
All collected items will be packed into barrels and shipped to assist those most in need.
“In times of crisis, we are reminded of the strength and compassion that define our community,” said Assemblymember Bichotte Hermelyn. “Together, we can extend a helping hand to our brothers and sisters in Jamaica as they begin this long road to recovery. My heart and prayers are also with the families across Cuba and Haiti who are facing tremendous challenges.”
