As the widely popular battle royale game moves into its next season, “Fortnite” announces in their trailer for Season 5 that The Mandalorian will become an available skin.
In this new season, the main point is of combining the greatest hunters from across reality to hunt across the new map. These new characters include a female Viking, a gladiator and a hitman made out of pancakes. While these other characters are original creations from Fortnite, The Mandalorian is the only character from an existing property.
The move to include him follows the previous season which include the cast of Marvel comics. During that season, players with the Battle Pass had the opportunity to unlock characters such as Groot, She-Hulk, Storm, Doctor Doom, Mystique, Wolverine, Thor and Iron Man. The final day of the season, December 1, featured an event where players took on the villainous Galactus leading to the events of the current season.
This isn’t the first time that the “Star Wars” universe and “Fortnite” has collided. Around the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019, an event was featured where players could buy Star Wars-related skins and use lightsabers within the game. “Fortnite” also had the honor of having an important plot point related to “The Rise of Skywalker” within the game. In the film, it is mentioned that Emperor Palpatine sent out a message to the worlds announcing he was back. Though not shown in the film itself, the message was shown in “Fortnite,” where users could hear for themselves that the villain was back to take over the galaxy.
As the popularity of “Fortnite” continues to grow, pop culture collaborations with things from “Star Wars” and “Marvel” to Travis Scott and “John Wick” are sure to continue providing players with more and more opportunities to combine the two widely different medias together.
