Still need to find your upbeat anthem for the summer? The Happy Fits have you covered with the bouncy “Dance Alone,” which brings a new dimension to their signature alt-pop-rock flair. We previously described the track as an “an upbeat, danceable love song,” and we can confidently say that it holds up even stronger with more listens!

“There were so many nights during the pandemic where we’d find ourselves alone and dancing with ourselves,” the band tells TREMG. “Especially when demo-ing, there’s always a certain rush when you finally nail the beat or guitar lick or hook, but always some empty feeling when you have to enjoy that moment in solitude. We feel like we’ve almost forgotten how to socialize after so much isolation, so this song definitely goes out to all the nervous Nellies out there.”

Alongside “Dance Alone” came an exciting surprise for fans: a bold music video filmed at the Cameo Villa in California. It flickers between shots of the band performing with clips of the everyday pandemic routine we all went through at some point, showing the protagonist trying to make chores more fun while listening to her favorite songs.

“We were on the road when we made the treatment for the video,” The Happy Fits explain. “The original idea was a post-pandemic house party where everyone was super awkward readjusting to being out again. Rahil Ashruff, our director, took the idea and ran with it and turned it into the magical, dance-themic video it is now. Special thanks to our good friend Lindsee Ann for destroying the chores & chores in this one!”

After dropping this absolute blast of a video, The Happy Fits are gearing up to hit the road for a string of headlining shows in Europe and the UK, as well as some US festivals. Now’s the perfect time to grab your tickets and dive further into their discography so you’ll know the words to scream along!

“We’re so stoked to play our newest song, ‘Do Your Worst,’” they share. “It was one of the first songs we demoed for the new record and has always harkened back to our first record with dark, fast, & bluesy hits. [We] think it’s going to be a blast getting the fans to bop to this one.”

You can find “Dance Alone” on your favorite streaming services now, and get to know The Happy Fits on Bandcamp, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and their official website! Keep reading for more from our conversation with this versatile trio.

Congrats on your latest single, “Dance Alone!” What has it been like to see how much fans love the song?

Thank you! And it’s been incredible! It’s probably our most upbeat, indie-popish song and the feedback from the fans has been amazing. We love bringing our sound to new places and we love it even more when the fans enjoy it, too!

What does the song “Dance Alone” mean to you?

There were so many nights during the pandemic where we’d find ourselves alone and dancing with ourselves. Especially when demo-ing, there’s always a certain rush when you finally nail the beat or guitar lick or hook, but always some empty feeling when you have to enjoy that moment in solitude. We feel like we’ve almost forgotten how to socialize after so much isolation, so this song definitely goes out to all the nervous Nellies out there.

Is there a certain lyric on “Dance Alone” that you’re particularly proud of?

I think the hook of the song is the most succinct way to sum up most people’s pandemic experience: “I don’t wanna dance alone tonight.”

You got to film the “Dance Alone” music video at the Cameo Villa in California, and it came out amazing! How did you come up with the concept, and what was it like on set?

We were on the road when we made the treatment for the video. The original idea was a post-pandemic house party where everyone was super awkward readjusting to being out again. Rahil Ashruff, our director, took the idea and ran with it and turned it into the magical, dance-themic video it is now. Special thanks to our good friend Lindsee Ann for destroying the chores & chores in this one!

You have quite a few live dates planned in the next few months, including headlining shows in Europe and a set at Milwaukee’s Summerfest in July. What songs are you most excited to play live this year?

We’re so stoked to play our newest song, “Do Your Worst.” It was one of the first songs we demoed for the new record and has always harkened back to our first record with dark, fast, & bluesy hits. I think it’s going to be a blast getting the fans to bop to this one.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with your music already, which of your songs would you recommend to them to get a feel for who you are as an artist?

Our music is all over the place for the general genre of indie rock, but I’d say “Hold Me Down” would be a good place to start.

We at TREMG love getting to know new artists who haven’t gotten the success or attention they deserve. Who are some of your favorite underrated artists at the moment?

We’ve been listening a lot to Del Water Gap, The Greeting Committee, and Lunar Vacation. They all released really great albums recently and we highly recommend everyone check them out!

Is there anything else you’d like to mention that the questions didn’t touch on?

Thank you so much for sharing our music! You can text us directly to stay up to date at 19088665662.
