Easter Sunday has arrived once more and, aside from celebrating the Resurrection, one of the most important aspects of Easter is the candy, specifically the chocolate. While chocolate bunnies and Peeps are staples of the holiday, two specific companies battle to dominate the Easter candy; Cadbury and Reese’s. Both pieces of chocolate is designed like an egg but their manufacturing methods and versatility vary. Through a brief review of each candy, we can officially determine which company wins Easter:

Cadbury Crème Egg: Before reviewing the taste, one thing to note about Cadbury is it’s vast array of flavors. Just a few examples as listed on the website include Orange Chocolate, Caramel Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, Honeycomb Chocolate, Strawberry Chocolate, and Almond Chocolate. The same cannot be argued about Reeses Egg which is composed of the iconic peanut butter and chocolate duo. While we have not tasted each of the Cadbury flavors, the flavor we will be reviewing of the original Milk Chocolate egg.

Regarding the taste, upon biting into the shell, the inside filling taste was already noticeable. According to chocolate manufacturer and review Callum Jones, this inside filling “is composed of sugar, milk, glucose syrup, cocoa butter, vegetable fats, and a hint of egg white”. While the cream filling tasted nothing like chocolate, the chocolate egg itself wrapped itself around the cream like a blanket and, upon finishing the egg, the decadent taste had lingered for a few minutes, allowing to fully savor the taste. It was truly something special and certainly an Easter necessity

Reese’s Egg: Ever since the duo was discovered in 1928, the amalgam of peanut butter and chocolate remains, in the words of the company, “perfect”. After eating the Reese’s Egg, the iconic taste was still there, but the peanut butter filling felt more plentiful. Despite having seemingly more peanut butter than a typical Reese’s, neither taste felt too overpowered and we finished the candy feeling quite satisfied. Not to mention, Reese’s making their candy in an egg shape is just adorable!

Unfortunately, there is not much more to say about the Reese’s Egg as it is very similar to a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Cadbury is not only more diverse with its flavors but it’s taste and aftertaste feel stronger and more satisfying. It’s a tough call, but between Reese’s Cadbury, we have a give Cadbury the edge because of its unique style and creamy coating.

Have a Happy Easter to those who celebrate and here’s to more warm Spring days ahead!
