On Saturday, UFC 249 took place in Jacksonville, Florida. The event was the first televised U.S. sporting event since early March. All participants in the event were tested for COVID-19. No fans were present at the event. Including media members, family members, and participants, there were less than 200 people in the arena. The guidelines established by the event will likely serve as the basis for how other U.S. sporting events take place.
South Korea recently allowed for the beginning of their professional baseball season. Similar to the UFC event, games are being held without fans. NHL, NBA, MLB, and NFL events are likely to begin soon with similar guidelines. With sports being so essential to the identity of many Americans, it is great to begin to see their safe return.
