Kalming PHragrances & Cannabidiol

Phagan Parker is a young Black woman who has started a career for herself in aromatherapy through her business Kalming PHrganges, LLC. A Scorpio born and raised in Murfreesboro, NC and now living in Charlotte, NC has been providing customers with calming fragrances that have healing benefits for 2 years. In this interview, learn of her use of CBD and essential oils, what makes her diffuser bracelets so special, and which product I personally fell in love with.

Q: Why do you think the use and just idea of CBD has such a negative stigma around it?

A: I believe there’s such a stigma surrounding the use of CBD because of it’s relation to THC. Although CBD and THC both come from the cannabis (marijuana) plant, they do not produce the same psychoactive effects. THC is psychoactive and gets you “high” while CBD is non-psychoactive and does not get you “high.”

Q: What are the benefits of putting CBD into your products?

A: CBD has many benefits. CBD has been used to help with anxiety, depression, pain, inflammation, and more. Our CBD candles include not only a blend of essential oils and fragrances, but up to 1000mg CBD, as well. We all know essential oils smell great, but they are also great at relieving stress and improving moods. Adding CBD to our candles helps provide twice the relaxation. Our CBD candles also make great massage oils, as all of our candles are made with 100% soy wax.

Q: Which of your products are your personal favorite and why?

A: I have many personal favorites! The Grounded Diffuser Bracelet with The Kalm Essential Oil Roller is my number 1 favorite. I absolutely love essential oils and I like the fact that I can roll a little (or a lot) of my essential oil on my diffuser bracelet whenever I need a pick me up and the fragrance lasts for hours. My 2nd favorite is the Cool Jazz candle. This candle is a blend of Jasmine and Ylang Ylang essential oil. It smells like heaven and is sure to help anyone relax.

Q: What inspired you to start this business?

A: I started Kalming PHragrances, LLC in 2018. Back then, I was working as a Mobile Crisis Clinician, which can be a highly stressful job. I had already been using essential oils for aromatherapy, but I had an idea to create my own products infused with essential oils. I started by making candles. Making candles started as a hobby and something I did for self-care, however, I quickly realized others could benefit from the relaxing aroma of my candles. Today Kalming PHragrances offers candles, incenses, diffuser bracelets, and pure essential oil rollers.

Q: What is the biggest goal you hope to accomplish?

A: The biggest goal I hope to accomplish with Kalming PHragrances would be for it to go from a side hustle to one of my main sources of income. I would love for my products to be sold in stores; when people think about aromatherapy I want them to think of Kalming PHragrances, LLC, first!

Q:Any advice to anyone trying to start their own black business?

A: Just do it! It may sound like a cliché, but it’s just that simple. Just do it. We need more black-owned businesses. I promise you, it’s the best feeling. Having your own and working for yourself. You don’t have to have all the answers. Start small. One idea at a time.

I have personally bought and used the incense from Kalming PHragrances and to say the least, I am a big fan. The Incense has a great smell, burns slow, and you get your money’s worth in how many come in a pack. I will definitely be buying from this company again and am excited for its continued growth.
