When I was younger I wrote a poem for school called The Pain of Being a Child. My father saw this poem and responded to it with The Other Side of the Coin-or-An Answer to Becky. I’d like to share this with you today. I am going to write it exactly how my childs mind wrote it and how my Father responded to it. The fact that my Father engaged with me in my writing meant the world to me.
The Pain of Being a Child
The pain of being a child is having your parents pick out your clothes. (Long plaid skirts and ugly green shoes.)
The pain of being a child is when you parents pick out a suitable bedtime. (Mine was 8 o’clock before all the good movies)
The pain of being a child is when you first introduced to boys. (And your biggest worry is getting cooties)
The pain of being a child is having to say you’re sorry even when you did nothing wrong
The pain of being a child is when you have to grow up
The Other Side of the Coin-or-An Answer to Becky
The pain of having a child is having to dress them in plain clothes (So the boy’s won’t attack and rape them)
The pain of having a child is having to find what we think is a suitable bedtime (Besides all the movies are full of sex and violence)
The pain of having a child is trying to give the child enough responsibilities but no to push them too hard.
The pain of having a child is trying to treat them equally but still being sensitive to their gender.
The pain of having a child is when they’re introduced to the opposite sex (Cooties it the least of their problems)
The pain of having a child is wanting to believe them even though you knew they may be lying.
The pain of having a child is knowing they will grow up
Love Dad
