Slavery has been outlawed federally since the late 1800s but the history of the United States shows a much different reality. What happened after the American Civil War? Black men women and children were meant to get setup with reparations, houses, and cattle in order to build their own way of life after the abolishment of slavery. That did not happen. Lincoln was murdered. The Jim Crow was born. And prison has been a way to keep Black families out of the American dream. Let’s look at the plantations, we mean, states, that still used the term “slavery” as a form of punishment.
