Colombia and the United States have signed the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between the Authorized Economic Operator Programs of Colombia (OEA) and CTPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) of the United States on April 17th, 2023.
Ingrid Diaz Rincon, Director of Customs Management of the Dian stated that the deal fulfills a wish of Colombian businesses to have safe and reliable operations when accessing the market of their most important commercial partner, which will bring great benefits to their exports and imports.
The MRA is expected to enhance the competitiveness of AEO companies, positively impacting Colombia’s exportable offer of over US$14 billion, including products like flowers, bananas, coffee, vegetables, palm oil, confectionery, manufacturing, glass, and more. Notably, the US is Colombia’s largest trading partner, with exports to the US growing by 38% in February 2023 compared to February 2022, according to the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).
