Bee Blackwell (she/they) is back with a creative, thought-provoking vengeance on “LALALA” following her SXSW Festival debut in March! “LALALA” contemplates connection and how it fades as people grow apart, making those eventual reunions awkward while you try to bridge the gaps that have appeared. “We’ve all got seasons,” Bee muses, reflecting on how seasons of closeness can shift into feeling like strangers over a gritty guitar line that perfectly captures the thinly-veiled angst that such situations can bring on.
As the first offering from their self-produced NINE LIVES EP, due June 20th, “LALALA” sets the tone for a confessional project that has Bee’s unique fingerprint on each of the four tracks. The “LALALA” music video serves as a fun teaser, described as a “visual diary” of Bee’s recent musical adventures that includes SXSW performance clips, footage of her singing the song at home, and even glittery clip art for a little nostalgic touch.
‘LALALA’ is a conversation between two people who haven’t spoken to each other in probably years, with all the weird boundaries and walls that have built up over the time lost. There’s a sense of familiarity, but you still don’t know if you can fully trust them, so you just make things up to fill silence or to seem interesting.
